Pasture, Rangeland and Forage Insurance also known as PRF is a type of crop insurance for livestock producers to manage financial risks associated with forage (pasture and hay) losses due to insufficient rainfall.

This coverage specifically protects against losses caused by drought caused by a lack of precipitation and is federally subsidized.  With indemnity payments you can help cover your additional feed costs. 

• PRF includes coverage for haying and grazing.
• PRF is a risk management tool the helps producers sustain their cattle  when they otherwise have resorted to herd liquidation or reduction. 
• PRF is customizable. It is available in two month periods and you can choose to insure year round or pick several two month periods through out the year when rainfall is essential.
• PRF polices have delayed premiums, you don't pay when you sign up.  Every year the billing is done in September, plus the federal government  subsidizes more than half the premium cost.
• Producers who have a PRF policy don't turn in claims.  The PRF program issues indemnity payments automatically based on the rainfall index provided by NOAA.  If your area received less rain than what it has received historically during a two month period you insured, an indemnity payment is coming your way
